Sweetgrass is a sacred plant for many Native American tribes across North America. Hierochloe odorata is a fragrant grass with a sweet, vanilla-like scent. It's often braided into long strands for ceremonial use and has important cultural significance.

Sweetgrass is burned as a smudge, similar to sage, for purification, cleansing and to attract positive energy and spirits. It's also used in prayers and ceremonies to connect with the spiritual world and honor ancestors.

Sweetgrass is sometimes offered as a gift or used in sacred bundles. It's also used in traditional crafts like basket weaving.

Prairie sage, also known as prairie sagewort (Artemisia ludoviciana), is a plant with a rich history of use by Native American tribes. It's important to distinguish it from the culinary sage we commonly use (Salvia officinalis), as they belong to different plant families and have different properties.
